Tranquility Base Restaurant and Lounge

Located on the ground floor of the sleek and sophisticated Sky Lofts community at the intersection of 8th and Grand in the South Park region of downtown Los Angeles, Tranquility Base Restaurant and Lounge is sure to tantalize all of the senses. It debuted in January 2008 and is the vision of restaurateur David Tardif. Tranquility Base is a destination that is inviting and relaxed, yet ever-changing and comfortable. From the season-themed menu items and decor, to a variety of high-end spirits, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Tranquility Base is distinguished from all other restaurants in downtown Los Angeles and nationally because of its ever-changing ambiance. In keeping with its celestial seasonal theme, Tranquility Base will host events in coordination with the lunar calendar and other astrological events such as planets aligning, special meteor shower nights, and any other major events inspired by the stars, planets, and moon.

Tranquility Base creates an environment that is designed to provide guests with a veritable feast for all of the senses immediately upon walking in the door. The interior consists of earth tone colors with hanging curtains and tapestries, which will change to mirror the changing seasons. Indirect light fixtures combined with candles strategically placed throughout the restaurant provide soft and comfortable lighting. The interior environment is complimented by the sophisticated sounds of a wide array of music to maintain a relaxed atmosphere.

Tranquility Base is currently home to Executive Chef Robert van Houten. This Holland native is formerly of The Friars of Beverly Hills and Inspired by early teachers and mentors Wolfgang Puck and Andrew Young, he proudly presents an eclectic mixture of dishes from around the world. A small plate style menu is offered which also changes seasonally, featuring only the freshest ingredients. Tardif believes "a small plate-style menu appeal to diners who are increasingly looking for smaller portions of a wider variety of offerings rather than a traditional course-by-course menu." As a former bartender, Tardif also offers visitors with an array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to quench their thirst. The bar holds a wide variety of high-end spirits, boutique style wines, hand crafted micro and high quality imported beers, infused vodkas, along with fresh seasonal fruits and vegetable libations.

Tranquility Base caters to a clientele of individuals who live, work, and visit downtown Los Angeles. The long-term success of this distinctive venture will be achieved by repeat clientele, through a unique incentive program that rewards frequent visits and the amount spent per visit. Guests will be encouraged to participate in a comprehensive "membership program" in order to build loyalty through a sense of community.
